Passing Through Romania

My father and I were on a business trip by car, passing through Romania, in 2008. I happen to know this country had just been accepted in the EU one year prior to our travel and I had the chance to see how it utilizes the funds given to it. There were construction works everywhere! Many of the roads were being renovated and rebuilt from scratch. By the time we entered the country it was evening and soon darkness fell upon us. Then we discovered how poorly lit the roads were, not only between towns, but inside them too. Especially the villages, they were completely submerged in the ink color of the night. I saw deep long holes along one side of the road and I was frightened. We took a road which was in a bad condition. There was a long line of cars, all aligned in one lane, travelling at 10 mph controlled by a traffic policeman. It was all a very memorable experience.
